135,694 Virtual Asset Millionaires Globally; Hong Kong Ranks Third in Adoption Index

Global virtual asset millionaires are estimated at 135,694 as of August 31. Hong Kong ranked third in the Henley & Partners index evaluating national and regional virtual asset adoption environments. Henley & Partners reported that individuals holding over $1 million (approximately KRW 137 billion) in virtual assets globally total 135,694, with 92,272 holding over $1 million solely in Bitcoin (BTC).

Those holding over $100 million (approximately KRW 13.7 trillion) were estimated at around 290, while virtual asset billionaires numbered 23, nine of whom met the threshold through Bitcoin holdings alone. Total virtual asset holders are estimated at approximately 742 million, with BTC holders at about 371 million.

The figures are estimates based on public blockchain and market data, excluding exchanges and fund wallets, aggregating multiple addresses to single owners. The calculation method for Bitcoin millionaires included those holding 12.82 BTC or more as of August 31, plus indirect holdings via ETFs. Total virtual asset millionaires were estimated using Bitcoin's market share.

Hong Kong scored highly in infrastructure and economic factors within the Henley Virtual Asset Adoption Index, which evaluates 36 countries/regions on regulatory environment, tax incentives, infrastructure, innovation, economic factors, and public adoption across over 900 data points. Singapore retained first place for four consecutive years, followed by UAE (second), Hong Kong (third), U.S. (fourth), and Switzerland (fifth).
