150km LoRa Wireless Network Could Transmit Bitcoin Transactions Offline

Technology has been proposed that could allow Bitcoin (BTC) transaction data to be transmitted via a LoRa wireless network even when internet connections are severed. The LoRa module planned for inclusion in Flipper One will utilize the MeshCore relay network to transmit information over distances exceeding 150 kilometers. Bitcoin News announced on X on the 18th that the LoRa module in Flipper One can send data wirelessly through a relay network without internet connectivity. During London tests, information passed through the MeshCore network traveled more than 150 kilometers. LoRa is a low-power, long-range wireless communication technology. MeshCore is an offline communication system that connects LoRa devices as relays to deliver messages in environments without Wi-Fi or mobile networks, with coverage expandable by adding relay stations on high ground.

Bitcoin transactions involve signing transaction details before propagating them across the network. This proposal involves transmitting signed transaction data from internet-disconnected devices via LoRa wireless and relays, with a gateway connected to Bitcoin nodes broadcasting it to the network. Therefore, complete reliance on the internet is not eliminated; while data transmission from device creation to gateway can be handled wirelessly, a gateway connected to nodes remains necessary for propagating transactions across the Bitcoin network. The 150-kilometer transmission was an information transfer test using MeshCore, not a confirmation of Bitcoin transactions.
