AI Executives Urge Slower Development Pace Amid Safety Concerns

Leading AI executives have increasingly urged the industry to slow the pace of cutting-edge model development and enhance safety protocols. Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, argued that AI development is outpacing safety measures, stating the sector must adjust its speed.

The Los Angeles Times reported on December 12 that Amodei called for a slowdown, with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, founder of xAI, expressing agreement. Demis Hassabis, co-founder of Google DeepMind, also supported this stance.

AP News noted on December 13 that President Trump cautiously responded to calls for slowing AI development. He stated "whoever wins in AI will win," emphasizing the need to maintain an edge over China, while acknowledging some regulation might be necessary without providing specific measures.
