Altcoin Market Cap Grows 21% in Month, But Bitcoin Share Declines

Altcoin market capitalization has increased by more than 20% in the past month, yet their market share relative to Bitcoin has actually decreased, according to Glassnode data cited by cryptocurrency media CryptoSlate on August 15. Over the last 90 days, altcoins' share of the combined Bitcoin and altcoin market fell by 0.9 percentage points.

Bitcoin rebounded approximately 27% from its August low around $62,000 to nearly $79,000 during the same period. Glassnode noted that around 1.07 million BTC is accumulated in the $83,000-$86,000 range, which could act as a significant resistance level.

Market participants are closely watching the upcoming Clarity Act vote on August 15 (local time) and the Federal Reserve's interest rate decision on August 16. CryptoSlate suggested that if the Clarity Act progresses, it could positively impact exchanges, token markets, and decentralized finance (DeFi), which have faced relatively high regulatory uncertainty.

However, analysts caution that price increases alone are insufficient to determine an altcoin market shift. CryptoSlate emphasized the need to monitor ETH/BTC ratio, altcoin market share, and exchange-traded fund (ETF) capital flows for clearer signals of a potential rebound.

Historically, at Bitcoin's peak points, altcoin market share increased by at least 2.8 percentage points over 90 days on three occasions. Currently, with a decline of 0.9 percentage points, Glassnode indicates that clear signs of capital rotation have yet to emerge.
