Anchorage Digital Bank to Custody 'Tokenized Uranium' as RWA Market Expands into Physical Commodities

Anchorage Digital Bank, a federally licensed digital asset bank in the U.S., has begun offering custodial services for tokenized uranium (xU3O8) and other real-world asset (RWA)-backed assets on Tezos' Layer 2 network Etherlink. This marks an expansion of the RWA market beyond traditional financial instruments like tokenized bonds and funds into physical commodities such as uranium.
According to Anchorage Digital, institutional clients can now custody RWA assets and stablecoins issued on Etherlink through its existing custodial infrastructure. The supported assets include tokenized uranium (xU3O8), WXTZ (Liquidity Tezos), stXTZ (Tezos staking token), USDT, USDC, WETH (Wrapped Ethereum), and another asset totaling seven in all.
Assets will be held in segregated accounts at the federally licensed bank with no changes required to existing operational procedures. Anchorage Digital highlighted that institutional access to physical uranium has traditionally been limited due to reliance on specialized brokers, lengthy settlement periods, and high minimum investment thresholds.
The company explained tokenized assets like xU3O8 can reduce settlement times from weeks to minutes. Nathan McCauley, co-founder and CEO of Anchorage Digital, stated that institutions aren't lacking interest in tokenized RWAs but lack secure custodial solutions meeting risk management standards. With Etherlink support, they can now custody tokenized uranium or on-chain dollar assets under the same regulatory framework as traditional portfolios at a federally licensed bank.
