Anthropic Announces Major TPU Contract for 2027 Operations

Anthropic has unveiled plans to slow the pace of AI development amid concerns about malicious AI agents potentially taking over the internet. CEO Dario Amodei argued on April 12 that improving the capabilities of cutting-edge AI models should be deliberately slowed to allow time for safety measures. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index dropped nearly 6% during midday trading on April 14 as the 'AI development speed control' theory gained traction. Anthropic also announced a multi-gigawatt TPU capacity contract with Google and Broadcom set to begin operations in 2027, which will be used for Claude model operations and meeting customer demand.
