Anthropic Researcher Resigns Over AI Extinction Concerns

Former Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon has reportedly resigned over concerns that AI could cause human extinction, according to CryptoBriefing. Coxon alleged that Anthropic and OpenAI are rushing the development of self-improving superintelligence, putting humanity at risk. On X, he claimed developers genuinely believe AI could kill all humans by the late 2020s. WIRED and Axios also reported on Coxon's resignation and his safety concerns. Anthropic's alignment research lead Evan Hubinger stated that AI has a more than 10% chance of killing all humans within the next decade.
CryptoBriefing reported that Coxon denied coordinating with external groups regarding his resignation and posts. The controversy has intensified industry debates over whether control mechanisms for AI models can keep pace with development speed.
