Bitcoin Miners Show Mixed Results in August as Bitfupu and CleanSpark Recover

Bitcoin miners Bitfupu and CleanSpark reported improved mining performance in August, with Bitfupu's production rising 55% to 174 BTC from July's 112 BTC, while CleanSpark saw a modest 1% increase to 593 BTC. Canaan, however, recorded its third straight monthly decline, producing 44 BTC compared to 46 BTC in July and 64 BTC in June.

Bitfupu's total hash rate increased by 45.1% month-on-month to 20.6 EH/s, with cloud mining output doubling from 40 BTC to 86 BTC and self-mining rising 22% to 88 BTC. The company's Bitcoin holdings grew to 1,373 BTC from 1,314 BTC.

CleanSpark maintained relatively stable production despite a slight decrease in average hash rate to 38.3 EH/s, but reduced its Bitcoin holdings from 13,931 BTC at the end of July to 13,703 BTC. The company sold 77 BTC on spot markets and disposed of 500 BTC through call options and 244 BTC via Basis trading. CleanSpark also announced a 20-year infrastructure lease agreement with a global tech firm in Georgia, USA, valued at approximately $6.6 billion with two five-year renewal options.

Canaan adjusted its digital asset portfolio in August by selling all 3,952 ETH and 54 BTC at average prices of around $2,400 for Ethereum and $79,000 for Bitcoin, securing approximately $13.9 million. Of this, $5.4 million was used to purchase 13.6 million shares of its Nasdaq-listed American Depositary Receipts (ADRs), bringing the total year-to-date acquisitions to about 16.4 million shares.
