Bitcoin Rebounds Near $76,000 Amid Oil and Real Interest Rate Concerns

Bitcoin (BTC) rebounded around $76,000 (approximately KRW 123.7 million), though analysts suggest recovery may not continue solely due to progress in U.S. virtual asset regulatory procedures. High oil prices and real interest rates could limit buying pressure toward risk assets, according to CryptoSlate. Bitcoin dropped 3.22% over 24 hours but rose 20.43% for the month of September.
CryptoSlate noted that whether the short-term rebound holds depends more on energy prices and financial conditions than regulatory expectations. The U.S. Senate is set to proceed with a vote to conclude debate on H.R.3633, the Clarifying Law Applicable in Regulation of Technology for Innovation Act (CLARITY Act), scheduled for 3:15 a.m. KST on September 16.
The CLARITY Act aims to clarify jurisdiction between the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regarding digital assets. Senator Cynthia Lummis introduced an amended version of the bill on July 22, integrating work from the Banking and Agriculture Committees. The bill must undergo further Senate floor debate and voting, House reconsideration, and presidential signature before becoming law.
Macroeconomic factors remain a concern separate from regulatory expectations. The U.S. Labor Department reported an August Consumer Price Index (CPI) increase of 0.4% month-on-month, with gasoline prices rising 3.9%, contributing to over one-third of the monthly inflation. Core CPI excluding food and energy also rose by 0.3%. The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) forecasts Brent crude oil at approximately $90 per barrel (KRW 121,230) for late 2026, reflecting ongoing Middle East oil export constraints and declining global oil inventories.
Real interest rates also pose a challenge. CryptoSlate cited U.S. 10-year Treasury yields at 4.97% as of September 14 and real yields at 2.60% on September 11. Higher real interest rates could reduce the relative appeal of risk assets like cryptocurrencies by increasing the attractiveness of bonds and other alternative investments.
The Federal Reserve is set to hold its Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) meeting on September 15-16, where it will release economic projections. The Fed's stance on interest rates and financial conditions could influence risk asset flows independently of CLARITY Act discussions. CryptoSlate suggests that a Bitcoin recovery scenario would strengthen if regulatory progress coincides with stable energy prices and declining real yields, while continued high oil prices and Treasury yields might lead to selling pressure despite positive regulatory news.
