Bitcoin Rises as Semiconductor Stocks Wobble Amid AI Speed Concerns

Bitcoin rose to $78,280 during the day on Thursday as major semiconductor stocks fell despite U.S. market volatility. The movement highlighted a divergence between crypto and tech sectors.

The shift followed comments from Dario Amodei of Anthropic, who argued in a weekend post that AI development should slow intentionally to prioritize safety. His remarks were echoed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk's xAI.

Major semiconductor stocks including Nvidia, Intel, AMD, and Marvell Technology all declined sharply: Nvidia dropped up to 3%, Intel fell over 5%, AMD slid nearly 6%, and Marvell Tech dropped as much as 7.5%. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index also fell around 6%.

Meanwhile, Bitcoin recovered from a monthly low of $82,284 on September 3, rising about 2% to trade near $78,280 UTC midnight. Ethereum rose approximately 2.1% to $2,514, while XRP gained 3.3%. Total crypto market cap increased by roughly 1.5%.

Bitcoin's recent price movements have become more sensitive to U.S. interest rate expectations and regulatory policies than AI-related stocks. The cryptocurrency rebounded after Federal Reserve official Christopher Waller signaled potential rate cuts on September 3, triggering a $415 million short squeeze.

Market optimism around the proposed Clarifying Law for crypto regulation also contributed to Bitcoin's rise. Expectations of the bill passing by 2026 increased from 31% over the weekend after President Trump agreed to revised ethics provisions that had stalled its progress.

The Senate plans a final vote on the Clarifying Law on September 15, requiring at least nine Democratic votes if two Republicans oppose it. Market participants view this vote as critical for determining crypto price direction in the coming days.
