Bitcoin Strength Outlook Uncertain Amid Mixed RSI Signals

Bitcoin (BTC) may be emerging from a long-term downtrend, according to AMBCrypto's analysis published on September 19. However, the market remains uncertain as overbought signals and rising volatility complicate predictions of an immediate upward surge.
AMBCrypto cited Cryptotrends' 'Bubble versus Crash' market structure indicator, which assesses whether markets are in extreme speculative bubbles or sharp collapses. The indicator suggests Bitcoin has moved beyond a bearish phase but hasn't reached the extreme overheating seen at previous cycle peaks. Still, this doesn't confirm a shift to a bullish market.
On the institutional side, JP Morgan analysts noted on September 17 that BlackRock's Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) shows higher short interest and put option exposure compared to gold ETF (GLD). The put-call open interest ratio for IBIT also exceeded GLD. This indicates stronger hedging demand in Bitcoin ETFs relative to gold ETFs, with blockchain media The Block reporting that while gold ETFs have recovered all outflows by early 2026, Bitcoin ETFs have only regained about half of their outflows.
Analysts suggest that if Bitcoin ETF hedging decreases, additional buying pressure could emerge. However, this analysis assumes investors maintain exposure to the underlying asset, and a reduction in hedging doesn't necessarily lead directly to price increases.
Technical indicators also showed mixed signals. AMBCrypto reported Bitcoin trading at $78,240.79 (approximately 10.85 million KRW) with a 2.5% rise over the past 24 hours. The relative strength index (RSI) entered an overbought zone while Bollinger Bands expanded, indicating heightened volatility. However, CoinLore's technical analysis placed RSI at 63.61, classifying it as neutral rather than overbought. These differences highlight how timing, analytical methods, and price data affect indicator readings.
Market interpretation remains split between potential strength and adjustment risks. While Cryptotrends indicates Bitcoin isn't in an extreme bubble phase, further confirmation is needed on ETF hedging trends and the sustainability of overbought signals. Previous reports have cautioned against declaring a bull market based solely on price movements or ETF flows, emphasizing that market structure, derivatives positions, and technical indicators should be considered together.
Investors are advised to consider not just price fluctuations but also ETF hedging demand and the timing of technical indicator thresholds when assessing Bitcoin's trajectory. Current data doesn't confirm a shift to a bullish market or further upward movement, with Bitcoin's next direction likely dependent on evolving ETF hedging patterns and overbought signal trends.
