BitGo Acquires NYDIG's Institutional Trading Business for $42.5 Million

BitGo ($BTGO) has acquired NYDIG's institutional trading business and related assets for $42.5 million (approximately 578 billion KRW). The acquisition includes the business that provided derivatives, structured products, finance, and capital markets solutions to asset managers, hedge funds, corporations, and family offices. BitGo completed the transaction on August 27, with the purchase price consisting of $7 million in cash (approximately 95 billion KRW) and approximately $35.5 million in BitGo stock (about 483 billion KRW). The agreement also includes contingent payments based on sales targets: an additional $10 million in cash if certain revenue goals are met, and up to $5 million in cash plus more shares if a second target is achieved.

BitGo stated that the acquisition connects its regulatory custody, settlement, and wallet infrastructure with trading and financial capabilities. The company plans to integrate NYDIG's team of about 30 employees and institutional client relationships into its existing platform, aiming to create an end-to-end digital asset solution from custody through trading, finance, and settlement. Mike Belshe, BitGo CEO and co-founder, emphasized that institutions seek partners who can support the full lifecycle of digital assets, including custody, trading, finance, and settlement.

Pete Janney, BitGo's Head of Financial Infrastructure, noted that existing clients will maintain execution quality while leveraging BitGo's resources. NYDIG will focus its efforts on power generation, Bitcoin (BTC) mining, and high-performance computing data center development, with plans to supply over 1GW annually by 2027-2028. The transaction marks a strategic shift for both companies: NYDIG moving toward infrastructure-focused operations, while BitGo expands its institutional financial services.
