Bithumb Employees Prevent 3.8 Billion Won in Voice Phishing Losses, Receive Police Chief's Award

Bithumb staff members have been awarded a commendation from the Police Chief for their role in preventing and recovering assets from voice phishing scams. The company announced that Ko Hyung-chan, head of Bithumb's Investor Protection Team Customer Support Division, received the 'KB Kookmin Jigi Award' on July 17.

At an award ceremony held on July 15 at KB Kookmin Bank's new building in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Ko became the first employee from a digital asset exchange to receive the Police Chief's commendation. He was recognized for blocking approximately 38 billion won in voice phishing funds that had been channeled through KB Kookmin Bank into Bithumb as of July this year.

Bithumb has established a cooperation system with the police and KB Kookmin Bank to manage voice phishing victim relief procedures. Through this collaboration, the company claims it has returned approximately 9 billion won in assets to 163 victims this year.

The company also stated that it provides both prevention of voice phishing scams and support for asset recovery after incidents occur. Bithumb reviews victim relief applications and collaborates with police and financial institutions to facilitate the return of funds.

A Bithumb representative emphasized, 'Prompt response after a scam occurs and coordination among relevant agencies are crucial for minimizing voice phishing losses.' They added that they will continue working closely with authorities to protect user assets.
