Bulgaria Parliament Passes Law Mandating Crypto Transaction Reporting to Tax Authority

Bulgaria's parliament has passed a tax law amendment by a vote of 149-0-10, mandating cryptocurrency users' detailed information be reported to the National Revenue Agency (NRA) in compliance with European Union guidelines (DAC8 and others). Under the revised law, virtual asset service providers (VASPs) must submit user identity details including name, address, date of birth, tax ID, along with total transaction amounts, volumes, and fiat conversion records. Industry groups and privacy advocates have raised concerns over increased compliance costs and data breach risks, while authorities cite anti-tax evasion measures and adherence to the EU regulatory framework as justification. The legislation aims to ensure virtual asset tax transparency ahead of the EU member state deadline of December 31, 2025.
