Cardano Joins Mastercard's Crypto Partner Program to Expand Payment Infrastructure

The Cardano Foundation has joined Mastercard’s Crypto Partner Program, expanding its presence in payment infrastructure and stablecoin development. As part of the program’s blockchain track, Cardano will collaborate with Mastercard and other participants on cross-border payments, business-to-business (B2B) transactions, and settlement systems.
Cardano Foundation announced the partnership via X (formerly Twitter), stating it represents another step in connecting public blockchain infrastructure to global payment systems. The initiative aligns with founder Charles Hoskinson’s vision of agent-based finance, where AI agents facilitate seamless transactions on Cardano.
In addition to payment network expansion, Cardano is integrating AI agent support through Masumi, enabling easier trading via x402 storage and official packages. This integration supports x402 payments across Cardano mainnet, pre-production, and preview testnets, advancing Hoskinson’s concept of agent-driven finance.
Cardano developers are also demonstrating network scalability improvements with Leios nodes reaching up to 250TxkB per second in local clusters—significantly higher than the current mainnet cap of 4.5TxkB/s. While this throughput has been achieved, further optimization is needed for real-world internet deployment, with Hoskinson expecting Leios integration into Cardano’s mainnet by late 2026.
