Circle CPTO Says Arc Chain Rollback Uncertain Even After Billions in USDC Hacked

Nikhil Chandhok, Circle's Chief Product and Technology Officer (CPTO), said in a recent interview with Bankless that he cannot specifically confirm whether the Arc Chain would rollback even if hundreds of millions of dollars worth of USDC were stolen. He added that he does not want to speculate on how they would respond to situations where large-scale hacks, such as those affecting protocols like Aave, result in millions or hundreds of millions of dollars worth of USDC being stolen from the Arc Chain.
Chandhok emphasized that Arc is a public blockchain financial infrastructure supported by over 20 validators and designed to be tamper-proof. He warned that breaking its immutability could severely damage trust, which would be difficult for users to rebuild. While stating they have no interest in rolling back the chain under any circumstances, he also noted that without knowing the specific conditions involved in a security incident, it is unwise to speculate on potential responses.
