Clarity Act Bill to Continue Past November Midterms

The U.S. Congress's comprehensive virtual asset (digital asset) bill, the Clarity Act, could continue through the November midterm elections and potentially into the lame duck session before the new Congress convenes in January 2027, according to a statement by Republican Senator John Kennedy.

Speaking after a failed cloture vote on Tuesday, Kennedy told Crypto In America that the Clarity Act's legislative process would likely extend through the lame duck session. The lame duck period refers to when outgoing lawmakers remain active in Congress before new members take office following elections.

Initially, experts had anticipated the Clarity Act would pass before November midterms. However, several pro-crypto Republican senators, including Senators Sinema and Tillis, have indicated they will not seek re-election, making it harder for Republicans to maintain influence if Democrats gain majority control in the upcoming midterms.

The cloture vote failed 49-50, with 44 Democratic senators voting against the bill.
