Coinbase to Support Stablecoin Payments and Digital Asset Trading via Regional Bank Apps

Coinbase has announced it will support stablecoin payments and digital asset trading for customers of regional banks and credit unions through their existing banking applications. According to a blog post published on April 16 (local time), Coinbase has partnered with Stablecore, a digital asset infrastructure company for financial institutions.

The collaboration aims to allow U.S. community banks, credit unions, and regional banks to add digital asset services without replacing their current core banking platforms. Customers will be able to buy, sell, or hold digital assets through their existing bank apps, with additional features including payment processing and staking services.

Key to the partnership is directly connecting stablecoin payments within existing bank services, eliminating the need for separate digital asset exchange apps or new financial platforms. Stablecore handles integration with banks' core banking systems, compliance frameworks, and digital banking platforms, while Coinbase provides custody and trading infrastructure for digital assets.

The solution uses a white-label approach where banks integrate Stablecore's technology without overhauling their existing systems, allowing them to maintain their brand identity while offering stablecoins, tokenized deposits, and digital asset services. Implementation is already underway with financial institutions including Amarillo National Bank in Texas, as confirmed by Coinbase.

Alec Lovett, Coinbase Infrastructure Lead, stated: 'Regional banks and credit unions should be able to adopt new payment technologies while maintaining their local business operations.' He added that the partnership would provide more affordable and faster fund transfer options. Alex Treece, Co-Founder and CEO of Stablecore, said: 'We've integrated relevant infrastructure so banks don't need to move entirely to a new technology platform to offer digital asset services to customers.'
