Crypto Card Fee Comparisons Shift to Foreign Transaction Costs and Cashback Terms

Crypto card cost competition is shifting from issuance and annual fees to foreign transaction costs and cashback terms. MEXC Ventures analyzed five major exchanges—MEXC, Binance, Bybit, Bitget, and Gate.io—comparing their cards based on data released in August 2026. While all offer free card issuance and annual fees, actual user costs vary depending on foreign payment conditions.

Payment data from Paymentscan shows crypto card transaction volumes reached $759 million in July 2026, a 2.5x increase from the previous year. As exchanges provide Visa and Mastercard network services, competition is shifting toward 'actual usage costs.'

The key factor determining foreign transaction fees is additional forex charges on top of card network exchange rates. Binance and Bybit apply 2% each, Bitget 1%, Gate.io 0.4%, while MEXC applies no separate forex fee on Visa rates. The gap between platforms reached up to 2 percentage points.

Conversion fees for changing holdings to payment currency are slightly lower at MEXC (1%) versus the other four exchanges (0.9%). However, Binance charges an additional 0.1% for USDC payments depending on asset type. Total fee ranges after accounting for exchange rate fluctuations were: MEXC 1.1–1.3%, Gate.io 1.4–1.6%, Bitget 2–2.2%, Bybit 3–3.2%. Binance’s rates varied by payment method—USDC at 2.2–2.5% and USDT at 3–3.1%.

Cashback rates were high but conditions mattered more than maximum percentages. Bitget offered 2–12%, MEXC 4–10%, Bybit 2–10%, Gate.io 1–5%, and Binance 1.5–3%. However, top rates required VIP tiers: Bitget and Gate.io needed $2 million in assets; Bybit required monthly payments of $25,000 or higher VIP status.

Payment reward structures also varied. Binance based rewards on transaction amounts, while MEXC and Bitget used VIP levels. Bybit and Gate.io applied the most favorable condition between transaction volume and VIP tier. Monthly cashback caps were: MEXC and Bitget at 800 USDT, Bybit at 600 USDT, Gate.io at 250 USDT, and Binance at 100 USDT.

Lower-tier rewards also had eligibility requirements. Bybit required $100k in assets and $1M in futures trading; Bitget needed $30k in assets and $5M monthly futures volume. Gate.io offered basic rates with no additional conditions, while MEXC provided 4% without conditions on its standard tier.

After accounting for minimum payment thresholds, effective costs were: Bitget 0–0.2%, Gate.io 0.4–0.6%, Binance 0.7–1.6%, Bybit 1–1.2%. MEXC’s base reward rate exceeded total fees but required a $100 USDT minimum to qualify, meaning users needed $2,500 in transactions for the full 4% reward. Bybit and Bitget had lower thresholds at $5 USDT, Gate.io at $5, while Binance had no specified threshold.

MEXC Ventures concluded there is no single superior card across all categories. Choosing a crypto card requires balancing foreign transaction fees, cashback based on asset holdings and trading activity, minimum payment requirements, and monthly caps. The report also noted that promotional rate adjustments and regional differences in issuance and features remain variables affecting actual user costs.
