Crypto Venture Capital Investment Rebounds to $568.3M in Q2 2026

Investment in virtual asset and blockchain companies rebounded to $568.3 million (approximately KRW 7.7 trillion) in the second quarter of 2026, according to Galaxy Research's Q2 report released on June 16.

The total investment represents a 31% increase from the first quarter, with transaction volume rising 10%. The larger growth in funding amount compared to deal count indicates a higher proportion of large transactions. Galaxy Research noted that the recovery was driven by increased later-stage fundraising, which accounted for 78.3% of total capital.

Early-stage companies received only 21.7% of funding. In terms of sectors, trading, exchanges, investment, and lending firms secured approximately $3.5 billion (KRW 4.8 trillion) through 51 deals—the highest share by both volume and number of transactions. Decentralized finance (DeFi) raised about $478 million (KRW 650 billion), followed by privacy/security, tokenization, AI, infrastructure, Web3/NFT/DAO/metaverse/gaming, and payment/reward sectors.

Geographically, U.S.-based companies received 73.5% of total funding but represented only 39.1% of transactions. Annualized projections based on first-half performance suggest full-year investment could reach $2.04 billion (KRW 27.3 trillion), slightly below the $2.03 billion recorded in 2025 but higher than most years between 2023-2024.

Later-stage funding concentration highlights that capital is not evenly distributed across all company stages, despite overall growth. Meanwhile, new virtual asset venture fund formations declined to five funds totaling $3.9 billion (KRW 5.3 trillion) in Q2—a low since Q3 2019—indicating a separate trend from the rebound in investment execution.
