Elizabeth Warren Pushes for Virtual Asset Regulation Bill Despite Opposition to Current 'Clarity Act'

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren of the Democratic Party has emphasized the necessity of legislative action on virtual asset regulation, while stating opposition to the currently proposed 'Clarity Act' in the Senate.
According to The Block, on Thursday (local time), Warren told reporters that the Clarity Act represents a 'first opportunity for meaningful virtual asset regulation in Washington,' but noted it lacks sufficient provisions regarding ethics rules for public officials, national security, consumer protection, and measures against illegal finance and terrorist financing.
Specifically, ethical regulations surrounding former President Donald Trump's involvement with virtual assets were highlighted as a key issue. The current bill requires public officials with 'substantial financial interests' in virtual asset companies to divest or place such holdings in blind trusts, but Warren and Democrats argue this would be difficult to enforce against the president.
On Wednesday, Democrats proposed an amendment expanding ethics regulations to include Trump's children and requiring public officials with significant stakes in virtual asset firms to sell their assets. However, Senator Sinema Loomis, the Republican leading the Clarity Act, rejected this proposal.
Warren also stated her intention to lead virtual asset legislation if she becomes Chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, saying, 'We can work together with Democrats, Republicans, and industry to craft meaningful virtual asset legislation that protects national security and the economy while addressing corruption issues.'
