ETHTaipei 2026 Explores Ethereum Technology and Financial Infrastructure Integration

ETHTaipei 2026 took place in Taipei, Taiwan, from September 13-14, focusing on integrating Ethereum (ETH) technology with financial infrastructure. Vitalik Buterin presented the 'CROPS' framework—representing censorship resistance, open-source, privacy, and security—as a guiding principle for blockchain development. He emphasized that blockchain should be a tool to solve problems rather than an end goal itself.

Buterin also discussed challenges related to AI's spread, including monopolistic models and data surveillance risks, suggesting solutions like privacy-preserving AI queries and verifiable public safety cameras using zero-knowledge proofs and open-source networks. The event highlighted EIP-8288, a draft proposal aiming to reduce the burden of repeatedly transmitting and recording individual proofs by consolidating them into a single STARK proof within blocks.

On the second day, discussions centered on connecting blockchain technology with traditional financial markets, covering digital assets, stablecoins, custody, real-world assets (RWA), and regulatory compliance. Lin Chih-chen of Taiwan Mobile and AppWorks outlined his 'Crypto Island' vision for Taiwan to become a key hub in digital finance by 2030, focusing on building corporate digital asset reserves, developing DeFi, and moving financial infrastructure online.
