Ethereum and Base Pause Common Wallet Standard Integration

Ethereum (ETH) and Coinbase ($COIN)-backed Base are pausing the integration of a common wallet standard, increasing the likelihood that wallets and applications supporting both networks will need to handle different transaction formats. CoinDesk reported on October 16 that Ethereum is advancing EIP-8141 while Base supports EIP-8130, with both sides opting for separate standards. The proposals aim to improve wallet usability through account abstraction methods. EIP-8141 proposes 'frame transactions' that split verification, fee payment, and execution into distinct steps. EIP-8130 supports on-chain key storage, new transaction types, user authentication, batch processing of transactions, and fee subsidization.
