EU MiCA-Registered Entities Show Rising Bank Presence at 23%

The European Union's MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets) registry shows bank representation has reached approximately 23%. According to a report by CoinTelegraph on September 18 (local time), the number of banks registered under ESMA's MiCA registry increased from around 40 as of June 26 to about 80 as of September 16.

During the same period, total crypto asset service providers (CASP) rose from 243 to 349 entities. While non-bank entities still dominate at 77% compared to 84%, bank representation grew from about 17% in late June to approximately 23% by September.

Germany has led this trend, with German cooperative and commercial banks adding significantly to the registry. Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest lending institution, was among newly registered entities. The bank announced plans on September 17 to launch digital asset custody services for institutional and corporate clients in Europe, expecting MiCA regulatory approval by October.

This expansion is not limited to major international banks. In Germany, institutions under Volksbank, Lippstadt Bank, and VR Bank groups have also registered. This indicates crypto regulation extending beyond large banks into regional cooperative banking networks.

The shift stems from differing MiCA procedures. While general crypto firms must separately apply for CASP authorization, banks can provide crypto services through a notification process. MiCA Article 60 states that credit institutions only need to submit required information to national regulators and notify them at least 40 business days before first service provision.
