Four AI Companies Sued Over Alleged Collusion to Slow Development

Four consumers have sued Anthropic, OpenAI, SpaceXAI, and Google, alleging the companies colluded to slow artificial intelligence (AI) development, according to Bloomberg Law's report on October 18. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S. Northern District Court of California, with plaintiffs arguing that coordinated efforts among competitors to adjust AI product improvement speeds violate Section 1 of the Sherman Act. Plaintiffs cited public statements by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei suggesting a need to slow AI development, followed by apparent agreement from SpaceXAI founder Elon Musk, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis.
