Gwangju Bank Completes Solana Blockchain-Based Digital Voucher Pilot

Gwangju Bank has concluded a proof-of-concept (PoC) for a digital voucher system based on the Solana blockchain, designed for use in employee cafeterias. According to the bank, the pilot followed up on a June MOU signed with the Solana Foundation for 'digital asset payment and ecosystem development cooperation.' The initiative aimed to assess practical business applications of blockchain technology while building technical capabilities.

The project involved Gwangju Bank, Solana Foundation, and blockchain infrastructure company Node Infrastructure. Together, they implemented a digital voucher system on Solana's blockchain, testing its feasibility in real-world operational environments. The bank executed the entire process—from issuing digital wallets to voucher issuance, usage, peer-to-peer transfers, and settlement—within a distributed ledger environment for its headquarters staff.

Gwangju Bank stated that the PoC allowed it to gain hands-on experience in designing and operating blockchain-based digital asset services. It plans to review new services, including digital asset payments, based on the results of this pilot. Deputy President Byun Mi-kyung said, 'Through this PoC, we have directly implemented and operated blockchain-based services, accumulating relevant technology and know-how. We will prepare new services in response to changes in the digital asset market and regulations.'
