Han Dong-hoon Calls for Postponement of Cryptocurrency Tax Implementation

Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon has called for another postponement of the planned 2027 implementation of cryptocurrency taxation, stating that preparations remain inadequate.

According to News1 on May 15, Han posted on Facebook that despite significant developments over the past two years, 'it is necessary to once again point out that tax preparation has not been completed.' He highlighted concerns about tax fairness between domestic exchange users and those moving assets overseas via foreign exchanges or personal wallets.

He noted that relying solely on overseas financial account reporting and international cryptocurrency information-sharing systems (CARF) would be insufficient to fully track transactions. Han also warned that if annual cryptocurrency income exceeds 250 million won, some investors might shift to foreign exchanges or personal wallets.

Citing over 50,000 signatures on a National Assembly petition requesting this year's tax postponement, he stated, 'Like in 2024, I will step up to stop it again.'
