Intel Plans 14A Process Mass Production in 2028 Amid TSMC Dependency Concerns

Intel has revealed plans to start mass production of its 14A process technology in 2028. The 14A process, which refers to a 1.4-nanometer class technology, will see Intel begin risk production for internal products by the second half of 2027. Tom's Hardware reported on this based on Intel's earnings report. CEO Lip-Bu Tan stated during an earnings conference call that relying on one company, particularly a Taiwan-based firm, for 95% of its needs is highly risky. The executive highlighted risks associated with dependence on specific foundry providers. Intel's planned mass production timeline for the 14A process overlaps with TSMC's A14 process plans. Intel has not yet confirmed external customer use of the 14A process and will prioritize internal product manufacturing first.
