Japan to Invest Up to $55 Billion in U.S. Projects, Including Nuclear Power

Japan is advancing a plan to invest up to $55 billion (approximately 739 trillion won) in the United States, with up to $20 billion (about 269 trillion won) earmarked for nuclear power initiatives. The White House announced that Japan has agreed to provide funding for U.S. core industrial reconstruction at a scale of $55 billion.

In the nuclear sector, up to $10 billion each is proposed for Westinghouse's large-scale reactors and small modular reactor (SMR) projects, as well as for GE Vernova and Hitachi's nuclear ventures. The U.S. Department of Commerce revealed that initial project listings include oil export infrastructure, while large reactors and SMRs are categorized as promising projects under review.

Investment amounts and implementation timelines for the nuclear sector remain unspecified at this stage.
