JPMorgan: Reduced BTC ETF Hedging Could Give Crypto Edge Over Gold

JPMorgan analysts have stated that if investors reduce their hedging positions in Bitcoin ETFs, Bitcoin could potentially receive relatively stronger market support than gold. According to Bloomberg, JPMorgan analysts including Nikolaos Panigirzoglou noted that after the Federal Reserve meeting at the end of July, funds flowed into both Bitcoin and gold ETFs. However, while gold ETFs have fully recovered from capital outflows experienced earlier this year, Bitcoin ETFs have only recovered about half of their losses. Institutional investor positions in futures markets for both assets remain high, but the difference is evident in ETF short positions. Despite recent fund inflows and increased futures positioning, Bitcoin still shows stronger investor caution and conservative positioning compared to gold, which may indicate higher hedging demand for Bitcoin than gold. If such hedging positions are reduced, Bitcoin could receive relatively greater support compared to gold.
