Kakao Games Acquires 39.56% Stake in M2O for 98 Billion Won, Secures Management Control

Kakao Games has acquired a 39.56% stake in domestic casual gaming company M2O for approximately 98 billion won, securing management control, the company announced on November 15. The transaction is scheduled to close on November 16, making Kakao Games M2O's largest shareholder.
M2O, established in 2010, operates primarily in social casino games, casual games, and mind sports across Asia, North America, and Europe. Last year, the company reported revenue of 120.9 billion won and operating profit of 12.6 billion won, with overseas sales accounting for over 80% of total revenue.
Kakao Games plans to expand its business by leveraging M2O's content assets including drama, webtoons, and web novels, as well as intellectual property rights (IP). The company aims to enhance synergies through joint development with M2O's China-based studio and pursue further acquisitions and mergers in the future.
