Michael Burry Calls AI Development Speed Control Advocacy 'Self-Interested'

Michael Burry has called the advocacy for slowing AI development speed, raised by Anthropic and supported by OpenAI, 'self-interested.' On Monday, Burry criticized on his X account that large AI companies' push to regulate development speed aims to slow down competitors and provide promotional benefits for companies preparing for initial public offerings (IPOs). He also argued that LLMs are not AI and will not lead to true AGI.

Dario Amodei, CEO of Anthropic, stated in a post on his website on Saturday that the pace of improving AI model capabilities should be slowed down and external safety evaluations strengthened. Sam Altman of OpenAI and Elon Musk of xAI also voiced support for regulating development speed.
