North Korean-linked Hacker Group Steals Wallet Data from 7,000+ Digital Asset Accounts Across 100 Countries

A North Korean-linked hacker group has infected over 30,000 devices across more than 100 countries and stolen information from 7,000+ digital asset wallets, according to a report by Ublockchain on August 18.

The Japanese National Police Agency and the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) revealed that the hacking group 'WaterPlum' infected over 30,000 devices in more than 100 countries between December 2023 and July 2024. During this period, WaterPlum stole information from over 7,000 digital asset wallets, with at least $10.71 million worth of digital assets funneled into wallets under the group's control.

The hackers targeted recruitment officers at companies in the digital asset, artificial intelligence (AI), and non-fungible token (NFT) sectors by impersonating them. They then lured job seekers to execute malicious code disguised as recruitment tasks or programs, infecting victims' devices.
