People Power Party Holds Policy Consultation on Virtual Asset Tax System Improvement

The People Power Party will host a policy consultation with the Digital Asset Exchange Association (DAXA) on improving the virtual asset (digital asset) tax system on September 21. The meeting will take place at 2 p.m. in National Assembly Building Room 22.
This marks the second such consultation held by the party regarding digital asset taxation, following a March meeting. The party's leadership is attending the event to signal their commitment to addressing this issue as a key policy agenda item.
Attendees include People Power Party leaders such as Rep. Jeong Jeon-sik (floor leader), Lim I-ja (policy committee chair), and other senior officials, along with representatives from five digital asset exchanges.
The meeting will focus on assessing the current status of the 2027 digital asset tax implementation, hearing industry policy proposals, and discussing legislative directions for the basic law. The People Power Party opposes the 2027 tax plan, citing inadequate infrastructure and concerns about assets flowing overseas. Meanwhile, the government plans to proceed with the tax as scheduled, and there are no notable objections from the Democratic Party.
