Revolut Customer Data Breach Alert: Hacker Demands 10,000 BTC

Revolut has informed 680 customers about the possibility of personal information exposure. A self-proclaimed hacking group is demanding 10,000 Bitcoin (BTC) to prevent the release of additional passport details and selfie images. Financial Times reported that Revolut notified the affected customers. Computing stated that exposed data includes identification documents, addresses, phone numbers, and facial authentication images. Revolut told TechCrunch that the request appeared to be a phishing attempt using a legitimate government email domain. The company confirmed its systems and customer funds were unaffected, and it has blocked the associated email addresses while notifying relevant authorities and regulators. The UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) is assessing the situation, with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) also contacting Revolut to investigate the scope of damage and response measures, according to CryptoTimes.
