Revolut Customer Data Breach Involves 680 Users, Italian Police Investigating

Italian police are investigating a case where hackers allegedly used fake government agency email addresses to steal personal and financial information of around 680 Revolut customers. The leaked data reportedly includes passports, addresses, bank accounts, and transaction histories. Sky TG24 reported that Italian authorities have launched an investigation for unauthorized computer access and computer fraud.

According to the report, hackers posed as official government agencies by using verified email addresses from Italian police departments to request customer information from Revolut under the guise of needing it for international investigations. Revolut stated that they blocked the fraudulent email address and notified relevant government bodies, data protection authorities, and financial regulators. A Revolut spokesperson told CoinTelegraph that systems and customer funds were unaffected, and affected customers have been contacted directly.

The Italian Digital Agency's CERT-AGID team reported handling over 650 phishing and spam incidents this year involving legitimate or illegally registered email accounts. It remains unclear if the Revolut incident is part of this broader tally.
