Robinhood Chain Fees Drop 97% Amid Stable Trading Activity

Robinhood Chain's network fee revenue has dropped by 97% compared to its early-month high, though the number of transactions and decentralized exchange (DEX) trading volumes have maintained relatively high levels.

According to cryptocurrency media CoinDesk on May 19, daily fees on Robinhood Chain fell from around $8 million at the start of the month to approximately $230,000 by May 16. During the same period, daily transaction counts decreased from 13.1 million to 8.9 million, a drop of about 32%.

Looking at seven-day averages, the decline in trading activity was less pronounced. Up until May 4, the average daily transactions and fees were around 11.5 million and $4 million respectively, but by May 16, these figures had fallen to 10.8 million and $641,000. Transaction volumes declined about 6%, while fees dropped nearly 82%.

DEX trading volume also remained steady. Over the week ending May 16, DEX trading on Robinhood Chain reached approximately $12.8 billion, a 5% increase from the previous week. Stablecoin supply decreased slightly by 1% to about $1 billion.

The sharp decline in fees appears partly due to cooling interest in meme coin transactions. Pons, a platform driving meme coin issuance and trading on Robinhood Chain, saw its transaction volume drop 37% to around $616 million for the period May 10-16 compared to the previous week.

CoinDesk noted that while fees have significantly decreased, network usage has not drastically contracted. Instead, a lower proportion of high-fee transactions has led to reduced average transaction costs.
