RWA Futures Trade Volume Surpasses Crypto Futures on Select Exchanges at $107.6B

Real-world asset (RWA) perpetual futures trading volume surpassed cryptocurrency futures volume on certain exchanges, though RWA's share of the total centralized exchange (CEX) derivatives market stands at just 15.2%. OKX and Token Terminal reported Trade.xyz's RWA futures volume at $107.6 billion (approximately KRW 149 trillion) for July 2026, compared to Hyperliquid's cryptocurrency perpetual futures volume of $105.7 billion (KRW 147 trillion). However, this comparison is limited to two exchanges and does not reflect the overall market size.

OKX claims RWA futures have surpassed crypto futures based on these figures, but the scope was restricted to Trade.xyz and Hyperliquid. Broader analysis by CoinDesk Research shows total CEX derivatives volume at $330 billion (KRW 4203 trillion) in July, with RWA perpetual futures accounting for $46 billion (KRW 638 trillion), representing a 15.2% share.

RWA futures are cash-settled contracts tracking real-world assets like stocks, commodities, indices, and forex. Perpetual futures have no expiration and differ from physical asset tokenized spot trading. Trading volume includes leverage, so an increase in RWA futures volume does not necessarily indicate a proportional rise in actual asset holdings or capital inflow.

OKX noted that RWA volume grew from $760 million (KRW 1 trillion) in October 2025 to $107.6 billion by July 2026, with the decline in crypto futures volume following a large liquidation event on October 10, 2025.

CoinMarketCap reported RWA perpetual futures volume across 19 exchanges at $792.2 billion (KRW 1099 trillion) for July, with semiconductor-related assets accounting for 42% of total RWA volume. However, CoinMarketCap did not provide the denominator for crypto derivatives to calculate market share.

For July, CEX RWA perpetual futures volume was concentrated on Binance (75.6%), OKX (14.8%), and Gate (4.39%). CoinMarketCap's data, based on a partnership with Gate, should be considered in context when interpreting figures.
