Shibarium Chain ID 109 RPC Updated to Official Endpoint

The Shibarium chain ID 109 RPC information has been updated to the official endpoint in the Ethereum Chain Registry. This change aims to reduce issues where wallets and Web3 applications load outdated connection addresses. The GitHub repository ethereum-lists/chains merged pull request #8699 on September 12, updating the RPC address for Shibarium chain ID 109 to https://rpc.shibarium.shib.io. PR #8699 noted that the previous primary RPC, rpc.shibrpc.com, was no longer functional due to missing DNS records.

The registry now lists the new official RPC and shib.nownodes.io. The Ethereum Chain Registry is a list used by wallets and Web3 infrastructure to fetch network details like name, chain ID, and RPC address. Shibarium's official documentation specifies the network name as Shibarium, RPC URL as https://rpc.shibarium.shib.io, chain ID 109, and currency symbol BONE. The explorer address is displayed as ShibariumScan.

This update does not involve changes to Shibarium's consensus structure or token issuance system but corrects a discrepancy between registry-stored connection information and actual network settings. RPC serves as the communication path for wallets and applications to access blockchain data like blocks, balances, and gas fees. The official Shibarium documentation states that the new RPC supports standard Ethereum JSON-RPC queries for the latest block and gas prices.

PR details noted that the new RPC returns 0x6d in JSON-RPC calls corresponding to chain ID 109, while the old rpc.shibrpc.com was inaccessible due to missing DNS records. The primary RPC listed in the registry may be selected by default when adding a network to wallets. If outdated addresses remain, they could cause connection errors, though services that hardcode RPC addresses won't automatically update from this change.

Chainlist's Shibarium page still displays chain ID 109 and BONE, but latency or node status details for individual RPCs are not visible there. ShibariumScan explorer shows ongoing block re-indexing with a progress of 52%, though it remains unclear if this is related to the RPC update or part of separate operational work.

GitHub PR author 'Testingtester2' was listed, but U.Today reported that Mazrael opened the PR; whether these accounts refer to the same person is unconfirmed. The change primarily focuses on operational maintenance for wallets, development tools, and explorers to reference correct connection addresses rather than token issuance or consensus changes.
