SK Hynix in Talks with Intel on First U.S. Memory Chip Production Partnership

SK Hynix (000660) is reportedly in discussions with Intel ($INTC) regarding its first memory semiconductor production plans in the United States. The company is considering leasing part of Intel's planned chip manufacturing facility in Ohio or establishing a joint venture with Intel and major cloud service providers, according to Reuters citing multiple sources on June 16. Sources indicated that negotiations are still in exploratory stages and no decisions have been finalized.

SK Hynix stated to Reuters that it is reviewing various options, including additional production facilities, to strengthen its memory business competitiveness, but nothing has been decided at this stage. The specific types of memory to be produced in Ohio remain undetermined, though SK Hynix's product portfolio includes DRAM, NAND flash, and HBM.
