Solana Co-Founder Welcomes $660K Tokenized Dinosaur Skull Sale

Solana co-founder Anatoli Yakovenko welcomed the expansion of dinosaur skull tokenization sales on Wednesday, posting three dinosaur emojis as a $660,000 funding round neared completion.

Jurassic Finance plans to list the Triceratops Prorsus skull as one million tradable tokens on Solana. By Wednesday morning, funding had reached 61% of its target with investors committing $406,667 in USDC, leaving approximately 13 hours remaining.

The distribution structure is straightforward: Jurassic Finance will allocate $600,000 for fossil acquisition and $60,000 to a research lab. Each TRCH1 token represents one-millionth of the skull's rights at an approximate value of $0.69.

Ownership will be managed through a special purpose vehicle (SPV), with the team clarifying that holders receive economic rights rather than direct ownership of the bone. The project operates on an all-or-nothing basis: if the target isn't met, participants get full refunds; excess funds aren't distributed.

This structure is significant as tokenized assets still face unresolved questions about what owners actually possess. The fossil, excavated in 1999 from North Dakota's Hell Creek formation and completed last year, retains all three original horns with 60-65% completeness by bone mass—classified as museum-grade.

Recent auction results informed the project: a similar juvenile Triceratops skull named Sophia sold for $840,000 in July, exceeding its $600K-$800K estimate. The team plans to display the specimen through long-term museum rentals rather than storage.

Jurassic Finance continues to attract diverse collectibles on Solana, from tokenized One Piece comics to stocks. The project initially announced fossil plans in July. With SOL trading near $97 and down 4% over 24 hours, the remaining $253,000 needed before deadline will test whether real-world asset (RWA) demand extends beyond stocks and bonds.
