Solana Cuts Mainnet Slot Time to 250ms, Maintains Throughput

Solana (SOL) has shortened its mainnet target slot time from 300 milliseconds (ms) to 250ms. However, the per-slot computation and data limits have also been reduced, maintaining the overall processing capacity at roughly the same level as before. According to Solana Foundation on October 18 (UTC), the Solana Mainnet-Beta entered epoch 1037 at 5:06 a.m. UTC (2:06 p.m. KST) and implemented the 250ms slot timing. Anza, Solana's core development company, confirmed the completion of the transition.
