Solana Shortens Block Creation Interval to 250ms... Epoch Expected to Drop by Approximately 30 Hours

Solana's target block creation interval has been shortened from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds. This adjustment is expected to increase block generation frequency by approximately 17% and reduce epoch length to about 30 hours. According to a Masbit report on the 18th, with the implementation of a 300-millisecond slot, block creation frequency would rise by roughly 17%, and the estimated epoch duration would decrease from around 36 hours to approximately 30 hours.

This adjustment is part of the third phase of the SIMD-0525 proposal, which aims to proportionally reduce the computational resources and data scale available per slot while maintaining the network's overall transaction processing capacity. The SIMD-0525 proposal also shortens the verification period for consecutive 4-slot block creation rights from 1.2 seconds to 1 second and fixes the epoch at 432,000 slots. A further proposal to reduce slot time to 200 milliseconds has been suggested, but the mainnet implementation timeline remains unspecified.
