Solana Slashes Slot Time to 250ms, Reducing by 17% While Maintaining Transaction Capacity

Solana's target slot time is being reduced to 250 milliseconds in an upcoming upgrade. This represents a reduction of approximately 17% compared to the previous 300-millisecond interval. CoinDesk reported on October 18 that Solana's adjustment to a 250ms slot time allows applications to receive and verify more recent blockchain data, while also shortening validators' control periods. The Solana improvement proposal was designed so that as slot times decrease, the amount of work permitted per slot is proportionally reduced. As a result, slots are generated more frequently but the network's total transaction processing capacity remains unchanged.
