Solana Dominates x402 Monthly Transactions at 70%, Drops to 38% Weekly

Solana (SOL) has accounted for roughly 70% of the 30-day transaction volume on the x402 payment protocol, designed for AI agent payments. However, weekly figures show a lower share of 38%, highlighting how metrics vary based on reporting periods and scope. Crypto Briefing reported that as of mid-August 2026, Solana held about 70% of x402's recent 30-day transaction volume, with cumulative transactions exceeding 35 million.
x402 is an open payment standard inspired by HTTP’s '402 Payment Required' status code, enabling AI agents to pay in USDC without accounts or subscriptions for API and data services. The protocol allows clients to verify and sign payments before accessing services, focusing on software-driven integration rather than manual user payments.
According to x402's official dashboard, total ecosystem transactions over the past 30 days reached 75.41 million with a volume of $24.24 million (approximately ¥3.26 billion), involving 94,060 buyers and 22,000 sellers. Solana’s 70% share refers to its dominance within the protocol, not the entire ecosystem, so direct comparison with total transaction numbers is misleading.
On August 25, Solana surpassed Base in daily x402 transactions for the first time in six months. Base, linked to Coinbase ($COIN), has historically held a higher share as it was developed by Coinbase’s platform. The x402 protocol now supports multiple networks including Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains and Solana.
Weekly data from Token Terminal showed that over the week starting August 17, x402 stablecoin transfers totaled 8.7 million transactions, with Base at 48% and Solana at 38%. Solana processed 3.3 million transactions worth $91,715 (approximately ¥123.5 million). Crypto Briefing noted that Solana’s x402 market share has fluctuated between 49.7% and as high as 88% during the year.
The discrepancy between monthly and weekly figures reflects varying timeframes and tracking methods. The average transaction value was about $0.04, indicating small-scale payments for API calls, data queries, and computing usage rather than large transactions. While Solana’s low fees and fast processing support micro-payments, the economic scale of transactions requires additional context beyond volume alone.
