SwissBorg Adds ZEC and LTC Amid EU Regulatory Uncertainty

Swiss crypto platform SwissBorg has begun supporting Zcash (ZEC) and Litecoin (LTC). According to Digital Today, the decision follows a significant increase in user search demand for these assets. Users can now instantly exchange ZEC and LTC with 12 fiat currencies or over 400 cryptocurrencies.
SwissBorg operates European services through a MiCA-compliant entity based in France. Notably, ZEC's inclusion has drawn attention as it supports both transparent transactions using public addresses and shielded transactions that conceal information—unlike Monero (XMR), which defaults to privacy. The platform explained it currently only handles transparent addresses to comply with existing anti-money laundering and transaction tracking requirements.
However, regulatory changes are expected in 2027 under the EU's AMLR Article 79, which will prohibit crypto service providers from operating accounts that anonymize or make transactions hard to trace. The regulation applies broadly to 'privacy-enhancing coins,' though specific coin names aren't listed. This could significantly restrict European exchanges and custodial services for assets like ZEC with optional privacy features.
ZEC's price surged approximately 45% over the past week, breaking above $1,000 (around 1,347,500 KRW) due to short-covering and expectations around spot ETFs. It briefly reached $1,200 (about 1,617,000 KRW) on the same day.
LTC also supports optional privacy features via MWEB. While AMLR defines assets with built-in anonymity as 'privacy-enhancing coins,' the exact application remains unclear. With about ten months until regulation takes effect, SwissBorg has expanded trading options for these two assets in response to user demand.
