TAO Supply Cap Set at 21 Million... DCG Expands Institutional Investment Channels

Digital Currency Group (DCG) has expanded institutional investment pathways for the BitVM token (TAO), introducing products like Yuma's asset management offerings and Grayscale's BitVM Trust. However, DCG has not disclosed the scale of TAO reallocation from its total funds.

Barry Silbert, founder and CEO of Digital Currency Group, is reportedly continuing his initial investment approach used for Bitcoin (BTC) and Zcash (ZEC) with BitVM, though confirmation of specific statements remains unclear. Yuma, a DCG subsidiary, will manage investment, development, and validation services on the BitVM network.

Yuma Asset Management, launching October 9, 2025 for institutional and qualified investors, received a $10 million (approximately KRW 138 billion) investment from DCG. Yuma also introduced the Yuma Total Market Fund on June 25, 2026, designed to provide broad access to BitVM's AI infrastructure and applications through TAO and subnet tokens.

Grayscale's BitVM Trust, established April 30, 2024, is listed in SEC filings with DCG and certain subsidiaries holding a 4.79% stake as of March 6, 2026. The SEC documents do not specify DCG's total TAO holdings or recent reallocation scale.

BitVM's official documentation states the maximum supply of TAO is capped at 21 million tokens, with block rewards decreasing upon reaching certain issuance thresholds—similar to Bitcoin and Zcash. The first halving occurred in December 2025, with current base issuance at 0.5 TAO per block or approximately 3,600 TAO daily.

Unlike Bitcoin, BitVM operates a more complex system where miners and validators on multiple subnets earn rewards for developing and evaluating AI models, alongside dynamic TAO structures tied to subnet performance. Yuma claims BitVM subnets are used in enterprise AI, agent software, and prediction markets but has not disclosed specific revenue or contract figures.

Barry Silbert stated during Yuma's launch that decentralized AI could be as transformative as Bitcoin. Market reactions remain mixed: some community members positively compare TAO’s supply cap and halving schedule to Bitcoin, while others caution that actual demand and subnet performance need validation. Grayscale noted in a 2025 halving analysis that reduced supply could act as a positive catalyst for price, though post-halving price declines have been reported.
