Trade.xyz Launches Perpetual Contracts for TLT ETF with Up to 20x Leverage

Decentralized exchange Trade.xyz has launched perpetual contracts based on the iShares 20+ Year Treasury ETF (TLT), a U.S. long-term government bond ETF, offering up to 20x leverage and 24-hour, 365-day trading. The platform announced the launch of TLT perpetual contracts on August 18.

The contract price is referenced from the NASDAQ-listed TLT. TLT tracks an index of U.S. dollar-denominated government bonds with remaining maturities over 20 years, using the ICE U.S. 20+ Year Treasury Bond Index as its benchmark, which consists of U.S. Treasuries with remaining maturities exceeding 20 years at rebalancing points.

Long-term bonds are more sensitive to interest rate changes, making TLT susceptible to interest rate movements. Previously, TLT put option trading volume surged to about 3.3 times the average level, though this does not necessarily indicate all market participants expect the same direction.

The product is a derivative referencing TLT's price rather than directly holding the ETF. Users trade contracts tied to TLT price fluctuations without owning the ETF itself. Trade.xyz describes itself as a HIP-3 decentralized exchange built on hyperliquidity, where independent deployers set market listings, oracles, and leverage limits.

The platform states it offers perpetual markets for various asset classes including stocks, indices, ETFs, and commodities. This TLT contract follows the structure of treating traditional financial products as derivatives within a cryptocurrency trading infrastructure. Perpetual contracts have no fixed maturity but are designed to track the underlying asset's price. Leverage amplifies both potential gains and losses from price movements.

Unlike typical ETFs that trade only during regular market hours, this contract supports 24/7 trading via cryptocurrency infrastructure, enabling traders to respond to TLT price changes even when U.S. markets are closed. However, specific trading data such as volume, open interest, and market-making mechanisms were not disclosed in the announcement.

Trade.xyz previously provided perpetual contracts for SK Hynix-related assets, which tracked stock prices in dollar terms. Both the TLT contract and the SK Hynix product reference their respective underlying asset prices but differ in that one is based on an ETF while the other tracks a single stock. Neither involves direct ownership of the underlying assets.

The direct impact of this launch on U.S. long-term bond markets or domestic asset markets will depend on further disclosure of trading data and market-making methods. The currently available information confirms TLT-based perpetual contracts with up to 20x leverage and round-the-clock trading are now offered.
