UK Allocates $676 Million to Combat Money Laundering Over Three Years

The UK government will invest £500 million (approximately $676 million or ¥91.94 billion) over three years to strengthen anti-money laundering efforts, with the Home Office announcing a new strategy on 15th. The plan includes recruiting 500 additional investigators who will be deployed to police forces, the National Crime Agency (NCA), and Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) to trace financial flows linked to organized crime networks. The strategy focuses on blocking and seizing illicit funds used in drug trafficking and human smuggling. The Home Office estimates that over £100 billion is laundered annually through UK or UK-based corporate structures, with virtual assets, fintech, and AI adoption exacerbating recent money laundering threats.
