UK August Inflation Rises to 3.1%—Highest in Five Months

The UK's August consumer price inflation rate reached 3.1%, up 0.2 percentage points from July's 2.9%, marking the highest level in five months, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) reported on August 16.

The Bank of England is set to hold its monetary policy committee meeting on August 17 to decide on interest rates, with the previous rate at 3.75%. The central bank has already signaled it will announce its decision on the same day. According to AP, market expectations suggest the Bank of England will maintain the benchmark rate at 3.75%.

Analysts attribute the rise in inflation partly to increased fuel and airfare costs due to Middle East conflicts, which have contributed to higher price levels across the economy.
